Jeremiah 18:1-4

Why do we fear change so much. Anytime our routine or surroundings change due to circumstances out of our control we freak out. I think we forget why we are created, to love God and to share the love of God. God didn't create us to get a job, get married, have kids and sit on a pew in Church and then die. How exciting does that sound? But yet that is what is happening to many if not most Christians today. The Bible makes it clear that God has big plans for us (Jeremiah 29:11, Ephesians 2:10). But we miss out on God's blessings by settling for mediocrity. We choose to listen to worldly logic instead of divine direction. Like a good coach, God has to whip us into shape to prepare us for His plan for our life. And that is not always comfortable! He may bring circumstances into your life you don't really understand or particularly like. But like the potter in Jeremiah 18 He is shaping us as seems best to Him. As I look back on my life when I have gone through those times it has left a mark on me. And though it has been uncomfortable or downright painful to endure sometime, I have always come out in a better place. I like what Mark Batterson says "A change in place + A change in pace = A change in perspective." God is just moving us tward or preparing us for our next opportunity to serve. What we do next is up to us.
